This is The Reason We Learn, a publication dedicated to bringing you different perspectives about education in America than you’ll likely get in the mainstream education press, or any mainstream press for that matter.
There will be podcasts with video links, and written summaries to help you decide what’s relevant and interesting to you and (I hope) other people you know. Sharing is caring, after all.
In all seriousness, we Subtack (we content producers) because we can create, and produce, and express ourselves freely, spontaneously, and possibly most importantly, independently. We don’t need to wait for permission, or get approval to share our knowledge, experience, and ideas with millions of random strangers, or dozens of friends, and that’s as it should be.
The same is true of education. We shouldn’t need permission to educate our own kids. We should be able to independently decide, as a family, what’s best for each of them. Most importantly, we should be able to have a direct relationship with all the people involved in educating our kids. Just as we shouldn’t need an editor or publisher as a middleman between us and our audience, we shouldn’t need government, or a small, exclusive group of “experts,” between us and our kids.
That’s the message I hope to get across in these pages, that no one is more of an expert on your kids than you are. I hope to help you find your confidence, and your courage, because you’ll need it if you’re going to pursue education freedom for your children. The pressure to stick with the status quo is intense, and self-doubt, not to mention fear of the unknown can be powerful too. My hope is you’ll grow to trust, and find strength in the information and support you’ll find here.
My plan is to publish at least twice weekly, starting March 21st. In the meantime, I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to doing my part to help you realize the tremendous personal power, and skill, that comes from being your child’s first, and most important, teacher!
