I hate this "but what about socialization" thing. I get it now even though my kid is a literal infant and anybody starts talking about "oh when she goes to school....." assuming I am going to put her in a school, so then I say I want to homeschool and then "ohh what about ____" etc.
I think the real reason people think homeschoolers are "weird" is the reason they think anyone who is smart is weird, or anyone who is different from the average is weird. Homeschoolers are going to be smart and different from the average because the average is going to be corralled into public schools and treated like cattle. Yeah, my kid will be smarter and more polite and more competent and mature than most other kids because I will see to it that she is by giving her a good life. She'll be weird....but only because the norm sucks.
